This series was created whilst on exchange at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada in 2010. With a heightened awareness of being an outsider and being acutely observant of this new environment I was fascinated by the architecture of houses in the Pacific North West and the forever debated ludicrous real estate market in Vancouver. These cubby houses (or sheet forts) were made in reference to particular house for sale at the time and were constructed in the house I was staying using available household items. Despite being an act of child’s play the cubby house is symbolic of the human need to build shelter and create a space for comfort.
